When St. Patrick’s Day comes on a Saturday, it would be a shame not to celebrate with some great music, food, and drink. Fortunately, the Penn Wells will have all three this year!
Let’s start with the music. The Endless Mountains Music Festival is one of the Hotel’s favorite partners. 3D features three of the local musicians that we and our guests most enjoy when they play at the Hotel, most commonly during our weekly Sunday brunch. When the Endless Mountains Music Festival asked us to host a St. Patrick’s Day fundraising concert featuring 3D – we couldn’t say no.
What’s the story behind 3D? According to the band members, “3D came into being in late 2016 when three local musicians, Daria Guelig, Dave Milano, and Dave Driskell wondered what might emerge if they attempted to synthesize their distinctly varied musical backgrounds. Daria’s hammered dulcimer delivered traditional old time and Celtic music. Multi-instrumentalist Dave Driskell added jazz and ragtime, and Dave Milano’s finger-style guitar fetched in folk, pop, and Americana. Their genre-blending experiment gave each of the three an opportunity to stretch their musical legs, and happily resulted in a unique ensemble group with an uncommonly engaging and diverse musical repertoire.” For their performance on St. Patrick’s Day at the Hotel (all proceeds support the Endless Mountains Music Festival) 3D plans to feature some traditional Irish whistle and concertina tunes along with 3D’s signature varietal music mix.
On the food front, Executive Chef Dennis Klimko has three Irish-themed specials featured in addition to a scaled-down version of our regular dinner menu. To get in the true St. Patrick’s Day spirit, try the corned beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, or Irish stew served in a bread bowl. If Irish food isn’t on your agenda, you can enjoy our crab cakes, prime rib beef, or chicken Marsala, among a variety of other options that will be available (see the full St. Patrick's Day menu). Pastry Chef Kayla Tilton also has some specials to finish off your meal: Guinness brownie, Bailey's pots de creme, and grasshopper cheesecake.
In our lounge, kick back and enjoy some green (yes, green) beer! We'll have Smithwick’s Irish Red Ale on draught. Our other cocktail specials build on the St. Patrick’s Day theme, as well as the Potter-Tioga Maple Festival, which is also taking place St. Patrick’s Day weekend. After a tour of local sugar shacks, settle into the Penn Wells Lounge for a Bourbon Maple Cider. If Bourbon is not your thing, we’ll be featuring our whisky sour, the grasshopper (crème de menthe, crème de cacao, and light cream), and the Irish flag (crème de menthe, Bailey’s, and Grand Marnier). Finish the evening off with an Irish Coffee and book your room at the Penn Wells Hotel, specially open for lodging on the 17th (We officially open for the season April 5.) Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
