After a delightfully pleasant October, November turned abruptly cold, and our trees quickly lost their leaves. We can hardly believe it, but it is already time to be thinking about the holidays here in Wellsboro. And despite the colder weather, we have a lot of exciting holiday events in the works!
Thanksgiving arrives early this year, on November 23. The Penn Wells Hotel is open from 11-5 serving a Thanksgiving buffet featuring roasted turkey with all the trimmings, carved roast beef, an assortment of cold salads, butternut squash soup, mashed potatoes, sweet potato souffle, corn pudding, vegetables, kids’ table, dessert table and more. Dinner is $25 for adults, but we also have attractive lodging packages that include dinner. Either way, reservations are strongly recommended.
The first weekend in December is Wellsboro’s 34th annual Dickens of a Christmas Celebration. If you are lucky enough to have reserved a room for the weekend, we can’t wait to see you. Unfortunately, we are sold out for one of Wellsboro’s most famous holiday events, but consider signing up for our waiting list if you’d like to try your luck at getting a room for a future Dickens festival. In addition to our lodging guests, many visit Wellsboro on motorcoaches or by car for the day. If you are visiting for Dickens and want to get warmed up, stop in for lunch or for a drink in our lounge. We don’t take reservations for lunch at Dickens but if we don’t have a table ready when you stop in, we’ll take your name and number and give you a call when your table is ready. Our Dickens lunch buffet features turkey a la king, pot roast with biscuits, butternut squash soup, various sides, and a dessert bar. Our Dickens dinner buffet features carved prime rib, peel and eat shrimp, roasted pork tenderloin, various sides, and a dessert bar.
If you can’t make it to the Dickens festival, then join us the following weekend for the Second Annual Christmas on Main Street weekend. Not to be confused with Dickens of a Christmas, this weekend is your chance to enjoy our small-town holiday spirit like a local. Our independent shops can’t wait to welcome you and help you find that special item on your Christmas shopping list. The Penn Wells is offering a package deal for Christmas on Main Street when you stay for two nights. The package includes a Santa brunch on Sunday, a commemorative event ornament while supplies last, and a passport for the historic ornament tour and raffle. The Christmas season ends with Christmas Eve Dinner at the Penn Wells Hotel, followed by our New Year’s Eve buffet and party with the Fabulous Philadelphia Mojo Kings, and New Year’s Eve Day Brunch. We’ll be posting more on those events soon.
We can’t wait to welcome you to Wellsboro this holiday season!
